Patroon Creek, Trashy Boat Lane, in the buck brush. Watermellon/ Red baby brush hogs, Black/Blue Senko fished wacky style in the cypress knees very shallow.
It will be pretty easy to figure out this time of year. Theyre either going to be on the bank since theres new water in the lake. Or they will be on the inside grass line. Good luck! I wish I was going to TBend!
If you see some hay grass (between Housen North bank and Whie oak creek )try throwing a weightless white fluke across it and allow it to sit in any open hole area and they have been coming up and busting the flukes. This was during mid day. Worked a week ago might still do the trick. georgeGeorge
any color. the water came up a few feet in the past few weeks. midlake area has bass in 1-4 feet if theres any grass around. afternoon bite seems much better than morning bite. find a creek thats out of the wind, and start chunking. be patient (wacky worms or weightless lizards are smokin hot right now), and dont be scared to throw a frog or buzzbait. the topwater bite is really good in some areas late. carrice creek is loaded with 2-3 pounders right now in the shallow grass. just let the wind push you on a slow drift a hundred yards across the flat in the back. guarantee youll get a bite each drift. we got on a chugbug bite the nite of the full moon right at sundown. holy smokes it was fun. im wishin i was still fishin! good luck. dont let the wind scare ya, cuz it seems like a way of life on the bend this year.
I fished in the Turtle Beach area last Sunday with my nephew. Tried to stay a long cast off the bank in about 6-8 feet of water and threw a shallow diving square billed crankbait. We put 11 in the boat from 7:30-11 with the biggest being 4lbs…my nephews biggest bass so far….also a darned nice channel cat. The bass were set free but the catfish is another story. I did also catch a few on a Senko up shallow. Saw a few small buck bass on beds in the newly flooded bushes. Ive been back at work since then and wont get on the water again until Thursday or Friday myself. I will be on TB this Fri – Sat – Sun. Hopefully TB will be semi boatless with the Mcdonalds Splash going on at Big Sam Rayburn. http://www.aviationbass.com
Was there last week (Apr 4&5) North lake they were shallow (1-4 ft) on plastics, mid lake in 4-8 on plastics and crank baits. Heading back this weekend with my new to me BCB so leave a few for me!!!
When the water is 170 plus there is only two places to be on Toledo Bend. Tennaha and Cow bayou!
Wildwood is a nice place. I suggest getting a crappie guide one day. I was there two weeks ago. Bass fishing was tough!!! Good crappie being caught in 20 water with guides.
leave wildwood and head for the open water, before you get to open water look on the right and you will see several islands. bass and white perch is all around this place usally all year long. good luck
thats a great place to start your search for fish.WILDWOOD is one of the bends nicest resorts. youll be very pleased with accommodations. (you can fish near there early and late in the day by pounding the banks with topwaters, buzzbaits, worms, and crankbaits. but as the sun rises, that will die quickly, so youll need to head to deeper water.)the fishing will be another story. summer usually means night fishing or deeper water. carolina rigging points or jigging in deep water grass will be the ticket. you might run into some schoolers, so always have a topwater plug and lipless crankbait at the ready. frogs and flukes in the shallow grass might produce as well, especially if its overcast.salvina has been a major problem in that creekarm (sam miguel) so i dont know how much trouble youre gonna have with it. that stuff sucks, and will cover the entire area as the summer progresses. and fishing in it is a waste of time.good luck…and bring your sunscreen. ps…the crappie and bream fishing should be excellent if you can find some deep bushes. guides make it real easy to take the family, but its still possible to find some without one. Thanks for the help I really appreciate it . I heard a roumer on Texas fishing fourum of a possible 16 pounder caught on the bend a few nights ago ! Anyone else hear about it ?
I havent heard about a 16 pounder but sure wouldnt doubt it. The current lake record 15.32 was caught on Jul 3, 2000. There was an FLW American Fishing Series tournament on the weekend of 6/17 and they caught a number of nice fish from 7-10lbs. First place after the first day was 30-05lbs. Big worms and crankbaits seemed to be the primary baits on drop offs, ridges, points and brush piles in deeper water. I wish I could tell you from personal experience but I havent been on the water in a while. Good luck and let us know how you do.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
TB, you have to quit all that work stuff and get on the water. jig- the bend has been hot lately and i dont mean the bite!!! neighbor just spent the last two weeks straight out there and resorted to catfish to have a fry last weekend. you can check out toledo bends wesite for some guide info. the link below is for covington guide service who fish out of the lanan 1215 area and they do alot of crappie fishing. i personally have never used them but my uncle did while at a conference at cypress bend last month. he had a great trip considering the conditions. good luck and just remember even if you dont catch, its better than being in the office.bradhttp://www.toledo-bend.co…equest=fishrpt&which=cgs
Yes, that work stuff is interfering with recreation but Im just glad to be back working again after being off for 8 months. Ill get back at it soon. I have a couple of crankbait holes that are usually good for some fun the first part of July and Im ready to give them a try.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
