I have been using the group 34 dual purpose for my batteries, I think D34M. I also use one for my 175 EFI, but it is a 2.5 liter block, not sure how much cranking amps, if any more, you would need for a 3.0 liter 200. I know the Opti needs a lot of juice to kick start. I had optimas and have switched to trojans. I like the trojans better and at a better cost.

No problem Bob. Just make sure the charger you use can charge agm type batteries. The Optimas are some of the best batteries around in their spiral cell technology, just as trojans are in wet cell. However, when weighing out the cost vs length of useful life, they come out pretty even…when youre on the second set of trojans vs. the first set of optimas, IMHO. Depends mainly on how much you have budgeted up front for batteries, how much time you want to spend checking water levels/ electrolyte solution, cleaning posts and connections and how much weight you want to carry as well. jignpig I have the Cul-m-rite pro-pack 3 bank charger. Is this a good type of charger for these types of batteries. Im not a battery person. I like the idea of a sealed battery and maintenance-free. Running Trojans right now. Bob

According to PAs website impactfishing.com, should be able to charge Optimas, gel cell, and wet cell batteries. I have an older Cat that the original Lester charger went out, so I replaced with a Minn Kota 330. Trojan is what BCB going to recommend would be my guess. They seem to be the overwhelming best battery for the majority. They are expensive though. I would buy whatever you can get serviced locally. Not 100% sure I wouldnt get the Everstart Maxxs just because if you ever have problems there is always a WalMart (many 24 hours) close by that you could get fixed up with. Consider a sealed lead acid type of battery if the AGM is too expensive… I sell the Delco (capped and sealed) and AGMs and I must say there is not enough difference in the run time between the two to spend the extra dough! I believe the Trojan and the Everstart are capped (need to be maintained).

JL is giving you some good advice about going the Everstart route. I have had good service out of mine and when I have had an issue, WalMart has been very close by no matter where I am and is good about replacing the battery during its warranty period.

I have used Everstart batteries for several years for the very reason that Judd pointed out…convenience(Wal-mart), open 24 hrs (if I get in late), good exchange policy. But like any wet cell, do require maintenance, and are large/huge. I am using Optimas now. Yes more expensive. Less maintenance, longer lifespan. I have used Trojan batteries on my last threeboata with absolutely no trouble. Great capacity, recharge quick and they do not LEAK into the boat-even in rough water. Go for the best series they make the SCX 200 or SCX225-I use the SCX225 and they fit great in the aluminum battery trays.

My Merc manual says..1000 (mininum) marine cranking amps 750 (mininum) cold cranking amps 105 (mininum) ampere hours A 12 volt marine battery with mininum cold cranking amperage rating of 750 amperes or 1000 (minimum) cranking amperes should be used
