replace the pin and do not worry about the RAM. Install a bounce buster if you dont already have one. Several years ago there were some faulty pins on the market and it may be possible that you have/had one. Ive taken waves over the bow before and never had a problem. good luck.

CORRECTION !!! I do just have the “crutchtip” on my boat now,,,,,,sorry, ignorance on my behalf is rampant today ! D. And i repaired just now, with a couple flatwashers in the rubber tip as spacers, then glued tip on and all is well. I use the Ram Mount….I am going to be fishing alot of big water and I like the security..I have a 52 inch TM so that is alot of motor bouncing up and down..Most everybody up here either uses a Ram mount or a Bungy strap…I use both the velcro strap and the Ram…

Thanks Phil for the advice. I already have the Bounce Buster on the trolling motor. The crutch tip type. I was going to get a new pin this afternoon, but it started raining so I decided to wait. Probably a good thing too. Area I would have had to go to was hit by what theyre saying was a type 4 tornado. Hit part of a hospital and tore up the area pretty good. I still think Im going to look into the Ram Mount though. I dont see where a little extra protection will hurt. Shearing that pin kind of ticked me off as I wasnt even running when it happened. When the pin broke, it jammed up the mount so I couldnt extend the motor. End of fishing day. So, if anyone has the information on the Ram Mount and a supply source I would appreciate it.

even though it is a smaller unit, I would still bolt down with an aluminum backing plate. In my cougar FTD, I was able to reach up to the recessed area with a long handled rachet. It is a challenge, but it can be done.

Did you reach through the panel where the trolling motor plugs in? So just screwing it down to the fiberglass could break it?

oh sorry, I meant to tell ya I reached through the stbd rod locker. Some have mentioned that they have their small child crawl up in there, but I dont have one of those! Having it just screwed down into fiberglass I think would eventually wear out your screw holes and could crack the glass…. the bow takes a pretty good beating if you are on big water.If its a small graph, you could maybe get away with some molly bolts, but I would still use the bolts and aluminum backing, so then if you or the next person ever wants to update the graphs, the option is there.Last edited by kent7351 on October 16th, 2012, 2:57 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Do you have an access plate under your trolling motor pedal in the basin? I added a ram mount and backing plate this spring using the access under the pedestal.

No just had the pedal out and I didnt see an access panel
