You forgot one important point. Can your motor swing that 28″ prop at 6150? Certainly doable. I had one that would swing a 32″ pitch at 8500. But thats not exactly a stock motor of course.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

Most of these were using a 26 or 27 Trophy. We could turn those in the 6000 bracket loaded. To burn a 28″ is not that easy on that loaded. BCB

Thats why I stated that a 27 would be max…28 is fine on paper but not on the water…..

Olddawg, I have a 2001 Jag with a 250 ProXB on it. Mine is setup with a 26P Trophy and will turn it to 6150rpms, right at 81mph on just a “me” fishing day. Fully loaded I lose about 300 rpms or so. As you know, the Jag has lots of storage space on it (especially with the flippin compartment in it) and if you start filling those holes (which are pretty much all on the front deck)with stuff I dont think youd be able to turn a 27 very well – your holeshot would suffer the most. What Ive noticed over the years with mine is that it is very sensitive to weight placement – keep your heavy stuff near the back. Ive moved most all my heavy tackled under the seats and now keep my spare prop behind the drivers seat. These are my thoughts on my boat with the XB. I dont know how much different a regular 250 EFI would turn a prop compared to the XB but I would think it might be a little less willing, which would make me more concerned with going much higher than a 26P. Im not sure where you live, but if you live anywhere near Birmingham, Alabama Id be willing to let you have my 26P Trophy for a little while to do some testing. Later, Brett

My vote goes for a 27 Trophy or 26 Fury!

I think that after talking to a few people I would vote for the 26 Fury over the 27 Trophy although I dont know much about the Fury.

27 trophy gets my vote, 02 Jag w/ 250XB , I can get her tuned in to 6050 rpms tourney loaded 35 gallons fuel and just me driving. btw,960 hours w/ 16 seconds overrev , …you can get a decent holeshot if you lose the antiblowout ring , open up some plugs in the prop and come off the throttle just before cavitation (this takes practice and timing) , ease back into it with bite and youll slingshot like Ricky Bobby

You want a Torquemaster gearcase. Though if it has a Sportmaster you could find some high perf. guys to swap for a TM case.

We ran a 27 Trophy on this rig and a 26 on the 250 Pro XS. The choice is yours and you might consider a 26 Fury. BCB

Let me begin by saying that I do not have a Puma so I am only speaking from what I believe to be true. I dont think any of the compartments have drain holes, they are all sealed compartments…..except the cooler obviously. I accidentally left the plug in my Sabre when I had it at the shop a while back and it just so happened that we had a serious rain storm. When I picked up my rig all the compartments were flooded and holding water. Thanks for the reply Jim. I needed to clean the scabbard it was starting to stink. I took a chance and ran water in it, and it drained out, thank goodness. Basscat really puts thought in their boats. Thanks again.
