If you vent the hydrogen gasses that do develop while charging by opening the lid on the rear compartment. The lid must have venting.

Sure, I understand, that is still better than having to get the cord out of the compartment each time. The problem is in order to get the cord I have to remove the rear seat so I can get my arm into the compartment. I could open the compartment enough to vent the area and not have to remove the seat if I had the external plugin.

An option is make a slit in the white vent tubing inside the rear compartment and run the electrical cord out the vent, when not in use just tuck it inside the vent, when needed just reach in and grab the cord. Did this for many years without an issue.

I installed a NCCO charge plug in my 2015 P2, I asked BASS Cat to install one, they do not offer it. I had one for 25 years in my Gamblers. Buy the NCCO, it has a pig tail, got it from West Marine on line,about $ 15, drill a 2 inch hole with a new hole saw ( sharp), be sure you use tape over the area to stop chipping. and be sure that there is clearence in the comparment area to run the pig tail, 3 small screw holes to drill assemble, and plug in your charger. Took me a half hour. I dont understand why BCB doesnt have them atandard, Nitro and others do. Hope this helps

Given the degree of attention of every aspect of design that BCB employs, Im guessing they dont do the port so that it forces you to leave the lid open to vent the gasses. Ive zip tied my charging cords to the under-deck rear seat post and added a 3-way plug. Takes two seconds to flip up the rear lid and connect an extension cord. I prop the lid up with a big screw driver for venting.

somata precisely tagged why BCB does not install electrical receptacles on their boats. It “forces you to open the rear hatch” are precisely the words used here very time the topic comes up and another salesman ventures into the building selling a receptacle acting like, theyve never seen one before.BCB has always had the position that the cable be under deck so that you must open the hatch. One explosion is all it takes to make everyone sorry they ever had the potential problem. Actually BCB wishes to this day that they never started the inboard battery charger trend in the 1980s. Though today as much as we push the efficiency of a Lester charger everyone continues to want onboard chargers.

I have had two batterys to explode over the yrs. Though it was only 2 both times my rear compartment lid was closed. With my 2013 p2 I zipped tied my charger ac cord to the rear seat pedstal. Kinda on this same subject, has Basscat considered someway of tying the vinyl duct work that goes to the vents up higher then just leaving them in the bottom — or not installing them at all. The vents are a great idea and Basscat is one of the few boat mfgs that continue to use these. With them turned opposite, it allows forced are in and out to remove gasses, but setting still, it looks like without vent duct work (or the duct worked connected up high) the gasses would rise to the top and go out.
