4 blade prop recommendation

I have a 2010 Puma FTD with a 250 Pro XS and it currently has a 26 Fury on it. Its a good all around prop, but Im looking to get a 4 blade to help me get the boat on plane quicker in shallow water. I used to have a High Five on my old boat and that thing would get on plane in 3 inches of water (more or less ) with the jack plate all the way up. Ive read people dont like the High Five as an everyday prop, and use a 4 blade. My boat does have a Detwiler plate and dual 8ft blades and 4 batteries, so there is a little bit of weight back there. Does anyone have a similar setup that can recommend a good 4 blade? Thanks!

The Bravo I XS is a good prop for what youre wanting. It may need some extra vent holes to help it. Usually its pitched one above a fury to get about the same rpms in my experience. Though it is generally thought that it can be run higher on the jackplate than the fury, I wouldnt recommend it from a safety perspective. It will greatly reduce chine walk compared to the Fury.

The High Five is a great hole shot propeller and for rough big water. Otherwise they run around 5 to 8 MPH slower. We like other propeller and some large diameter wheels. The Bravo of course has a following and most wont prefer it, however it does seem to work fine on an Eyra hull. There are Mirage, Relvolution offerings and more. We think the TXP and FXP Yamaha or Yamaha T1 series might work well on some Mercury applications. Though we have not run these on them ourselves.

I have your exact setup and I run a Bravo 1XS…I run the great Lakes and like a prop that jumps on plane, grabs the water and has good lift….I also like the Turbo OT4…

I have a 27 pitch Bravo 1 on my 2012 Cougar w/250 Pro XS. It has four additional vent holes drilled in it and these have plugs that are drilled out 3/8″. It has a great hole shot. Gets up quick! Does not have the top end you will get with a Fury 27. Bogs down putting it back on the trailer. Gets two guys full gear and full live wells up on plane.

Ive been experimenting with a 26P Powertech TRO4 on my PII. It is very similar to a Mercury Trophy Plus but has a flared barrel and has thicker blades. It has a better holeshot and higher top end (3 mph) than my 26 Fury. I can stay on plane a lot slower too. Ive run it up and down on the JP and it doesnt seem to be real sensitive to running height. The only issue has been WOT RPM. I am only getting 5400. Im dropping down to a 25P TRO4 (ordering it tomorrow).I have not given up on the Fury yet but the TRO4 seems promising.RHLast edited by himmelrr on February 2nd, 2015, 2:39 am, edited 2 times in total.

I know you asked for a 4 blade recommendation but if its hole shot you are looking for then how about dropping down to a 24″ Fury. You will still run Mid 70s and it will leap out of the hole. Himmelrr, I have a brand new 25″ power-tech tro4 that does jump my Eyra out of the hole pretty good but its a couple mph slower than my Fury and Trophy. When I had my classic with 3.0 liter efi (modified) I ran a 27″ powertech tro4 and it was the fastest prop I ever put on it. The 19 footers seem to really like the TRO4. Im not sure about the 20 footers though. My Eyra seems to respond really well to the TRO4 but its just missing a little bit on top. Im still playing with it to see whats best. So far the Fury has been the best all around as BCB has suggested. I cant help but play though, its in my nature. Chris CoupelPaulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.

I was really wanting at least a 4 blade to also help in rough water. Its so tough when these cost hundreds of dollars. You just cant take few different ones out to try them.

Just curious, if you have run a high five in the past and liked the performance why not just get another high five? I like my high five in fact I have two of them a 21 pitch for pulling a tube or ski literally will rip your arms out of socket if youre not ready and you can stay on plane at low speeds. I have a 24 pitch for fishing big rough water, but also get enough speed to keep up when I need it. It gets me a co and a boat load of gear on plane quick, its plenty fast I had seen low 60s with my old engine which was a 150 I now have a 175. I personally dont think theres such thing as an all purpose prop. It doesnt take long to swap a prop so why look for an all purpose prop? You have a fast prop now, why not buy a torque monster high five for the rough stuff and pulling a heavy load or getting on plane if you know youre going to be in the skinny stuff? A four blade prop is an inbetween prop that if you have to have an all purpose prop then thats the ticket. But like I said you already have your speed prop and honestly are you going to really miss the 5 to 8 mph loss you will see with a high five? Your boat is already a fast boat so mid to low 70s isnt slow… You will still pass the nitros and rangers like theyre standing still! I know some of you will think Im crazy for running a 21 pitch prop on a 175 I dont run it at WOT it would make my engine go boom! Its strictly for recreation low speeds and for ripping peoples arms out of socket.
