I dont know what size you use, but check out sparkplugs.com. Ive been buying from them for a few years now. Their prices are great, and they let you buy them in any amounts you want. Some places require you buy them in tens, but this place lets you buy in any amounts you need. I usually buy 12 and change after I burn my winterized gas, then again half way through the season.
Im good with the Orielys price. They list for $16.98 but I got them for $9.86but thanks for the heads up..
If you have your Mercury Outboard Owners Manual, its in the Specifications section. Otherwise, Don Weed (EuropeanAM) will help you out in the BBC Merc 3 Liter forum but youll have to have your engine serial #.
Do not get me wrong, Im all in favor of someone saving a buck here and there. BUT do you know how to index the plug? What the torque is? Is it in inch/lbs. or ft/lbs. ? Do you have the ability to at least check your coil output/cly. I could go on and ask about the 10x view of old plug looking for future problems. But I wont. In other words this is not your fathers Oldsmobile.

I kept my old ones and Ill try to remember to look at the numbers tonight. I had the dealer change em for me during a 2 year service but Ill do em myself from now on. $26 and change per plug at the dealer.
Service manuel!! Best 100 dollars Ive spent on my boat. Even the 88 model I had one. Probally has saved me hundreds . The dfi motors are definitly different than that xr4. Why I decided to purchace another2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
Look at the sticker. Might be under the cowl on the air handler. Itll give you the plug and gap. Those iridium plugs are going to be high. Just buy them from Oreillys or another auto parts store. Do not try to cross reference for another. Stay with the factory plug. I could be mistaken – but, I dont think any of the Mercs require indexing and changing them out is a relatively simple task. Set the gap with a wire gapping tool and be careful – the electrode is fragile. I do lay the old plugs out by number on paper to check color variations between them. If ones too clean or too oily – its easy to see if theres an issue that requires a trip to the boat doctor with the old plugs. Ive never really used a torque wrench on a spark plug but it calls for 20 ft. lbs..
I found mine on amazon. they were a bit cheaper so I bought 6 extra. I didnt gap them as I didnt want to damage the tip. I have an 09 250 so they are probably the same. If they are the originals then I would pull 1 and use that number to go to NGKs website. I think the new number was a 4462 if I remember correctly. do a compression/leak down check while you have them all out
Im not going to install them myself, just trying to save a buck on the purchase before Christmas, every dollar I save is just one more I can spend on my Lil Buddy (grandson) My shop wants $20.00 each so I am hoping to save $ some on-line. JR
The dealer put NGK LASER IRIDIUM plugs in mine. Part# IZFR6J11. Mine is a 2014 Model 250 Pro XS.
I have to ask! Wat kind of hours are yall putting on these plugs.? These plugs should be good for a couple hundred hours anyway. I have a hundred hours on mine. Pulled out and they look good. No misfire. I put right back in. So I called a well known certified mechanic iv3 known for yrs and ask him about it. He told me these are not like the old plugs.they would last LAST MANY HOURS. Told me as long as I ws running the merc additives. He would run the ones in it. He also said where you get in trouble is running not quality oil. I trust his judgment.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury

Not required on mercs. Just make sure your plug has a “6” in the number, not a “5” as in IZFR6J. Make sure you set the gap to .042-.044″. These are iridium plugs so you have to use a wire gauge and it is a pure go/no-go test. To modify the gap you have to use the small slotted tool on the wire gauge to carefully bend the ground electrode either farther away from the iridium tip (most common) or toward the iridium tip (if the gap is too large, not very common). The easiest way to properly install them (NEW only) is to snug them finger tight, and then turn an additional 90 degrees. Or, better, if you have a torque wrench, 20 ft-lbs.Just watch the plug number. Prior to Feb 2012, the 200hp pro xs was simply a 200 optimax with a pro xs cowl. After that point in time, the 200 became a real pro xs with carbon fiber reeds, higher fuel/air injection pressures, etc. Older used the “5” plug gapped to .032. Yours is newer and uses the “6” plug with the larger gap above.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
Indexing them will improve the burn a negligible amount. It does help on any motor, just not much on some…
Oldtimer I didnt think indexing was necessary and thats wat I told my friend. Ive changed many plugs through the yrs. I own and use my torque wrenchs. With that in mInd I know wat the difference is between 20 and 50 ft lbs of torque. The torque wrench just eases my mind. according to my service manual IZFR6J-11 (pre gapped) or IZFR6J (YOU HAVE TO GAP THIS PLUG) can be used. Thank you Oldtimer and BCB FOR THE CLARIFICATION . As I stated Im pretty sure the manual would have specified if indexing was necessaryLast edited by Redngoo on March 12th, 2017, 5:47 pm, edited 1 time in total.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
