Evinrude Trolling Motor

Ive never had an Evinrude trolling motor personally, but Ive had several friends who have had them. They were very reliable motors. If yours is working…Id just keep it. But that being said, the new MGs and Mks are so much farther advanced technologically, that you probably wont look back if you do replace it with one of the new models.

I had Evinrude trolling motors on 2 different boats. They worked very well and did not have any problems with them. I think marketing had more to do with them not being able to sell rather then reliability. Unless you need more thrust I would keep it.

I have always loved the Johnson/Evinrude trolling motors and actually still have two complete ones in working order that I keep for my smaller boats with about five bad ones that I keep around for parts since the parts for these motors are pretty much obsolete. The Johnson/Evinrude trolling motors dont have the power of the newer models and if it does go bad before a tournament or day on the water, you will have trouble getting parts. An upgrade may not be a bad idea. The Motor Guide will “feel” closer to what you are used to for the simple reason the throttle button is on the right side of the pedal. Minn Kota and Motor Guide are both making good trolling motors right now so either choice will probably be a good one. On a side note, if you or anyone reading this needs parts for the Johnson/Evinrude trolling motors, let me know. My dad stockpiled those parts when he heard the motors were being discontinued. thanks for the input guys. based on what im seeing, i think ill keep it on my rig till it quits working and then upgrade to a newer model mg or mk. got some isolators that im gonna put in this weekend so i can atleast have a little protection for the bow and get the metal frame off of direct contact with the glass.

I (and the bank) own a 2011 PII with MotorGuide. Separately I own a 1990 Gemini with an OMC 12/24 trolling motor. The OMC 12/24 is superior to the MG in my opinion. It is 21 years old and still completely functional. The OMC motors had 2 problems I am aware of: 1) the cable would occasionally need replacing due to breakage and, 2) the motor would develop a little slap in it. The cure for #1 is obvious–replace the cable. The cure for #2 is to grease the bearing where the trolling motor shaft narrows down. when i bought my new to me PII, it had an evinrude trolling motor on it. i am assuming its a 94, just like the rest of the boat package. i was thinking about replacing it with a little more modern tm , but have been told by several people not to, that the tm i have is one of the better ones built. its a 12/24 volt dont know about the thrust and it seems to work just fine. i was just wondering if any of you had any experience with these tms and what your opinion of them are. any input would be appreciated
