Transducer mounting location

I am mounting a 597ci which has the internal GPS but uses a transducer for the water temp and also for the locator. Is there an optimal location along the bottom on the transom to mount it? I have the cable feeding out the right side as you look at the back of the boat. Using the keel as a guide, how far from there should I mount it? I would rather only drill and attach it once.Thanks in advanceJohn

My structure scan is directly under the motor and the regular transducer is just a couple of inches to the right of it.

Is the bottom of the transducer even with the bottom of that part of the boat?John

If you look where my LSS-1 Transducer is, you can see just to the right of it where I have the traditional transducer mounted to the rear bolt of the LSS-1 under/inside the jackplate. Its a good safe place for it but makes it useless on plane. Depending on where I am at I will switch between that one and the already mounted Lowrance shoot through hull transducer. I get a better picture from this one, but the shoot through hull is nice so I can see whats under me up to about 50mph.- Chaz
