2008 Ford to trailer wiring

Try Wal-Mart. You can buy a 7 pin RV plug to a dual, 4 and 5 pin boat plug. I did this on my new classic with brakes. Be careful to plug into the 5 pin and not the 4 pin. I accidental did this and I could not back up, as the brakes lock up with out the back up light connection to by pass the brake fluid. Anyhow, this is the adaptor to get. Skipjack

Im on my sixth Ford, and the plug that comes standard with the truck worked on all my boats. Ive had a number of Broncos, Expeditions, and now an F-250. The standard plug just hooked up to my Bass Cat trailer with no modifications. I can look up the part number if you need it, but the same plug came on all my trucks, and I never had to choose among various types.

Any auto parts store, Walmart, Academy sports, they all have the round to 5 pin connectors. and you need that fifth pin if you have surge brakes.

Bazcat, go your local auto parts store and pick up 5 pin round connector. There is also a fuses block (color is black) that should come with your truck, that also need to be installed in your fuse box. Mine was lacated in the glove box. I installed myself. If dealer installs make sure its done. I believe this fuse block helps with braking and with your rev. lights as you back. Bob

Thanks for the responses guys and BCB! I looked again at the connectors and it looks like they have the round to five pin flat connector on the parts and accessories page of BCB. There is a little cube relay that came with the package for trailering, suppose to install in the block under the dash on passengers side. Anybody know what the relay does? Or does it just power up the connectors at the back. Thanks again.

That block should come with directions and should just be if you are running electric brakes. I know in 06 they started putting the relays for reverse lights in the panel at the factory (but some have slipped thru without it, and those they usually put the relay in the bag in the dash), so you should be able to just get the round to 7 pin x-over and you should be fine. If you have a circuit tester you can have your someone else with the parking brake set and the engine running put the vehicle in reverse and check to see if you are getting voltage on the pin on the connector. If not install the correct relay into panel under the hood., and check again. My 04 and 07 came with everything plugged in and just plugged in the x-over in the back and was fine, though on my 03 I had to install the relay. Joe Houma, La.

The relay is for electric brakes. Ive never used this on my boats. When your truck is delivered, there will be a socket to plug into to the left of the receiver mount. You should also get a plug with the truck. The end of the plug has a square flat connector, which simply hooks onto the wiring end on your trailer. The Ford towing package is great, and youll find the electrical hookup is simply plugging in the trailer to the plug, then the plug into the socket.
