Lower unit oil changing pump

Guys I am thinking of changing my own lower unit oil on a 2011 250 Pro XS. What kind of pump do I need to do this job?

The merc I think has a small pump kit or lubrimatic has, can get at walmart. It screws down on quart bottle

Mercury / Quicksilver sells a pump with hose and screw-in nozzle that will fit a Quart bottle. Heres some examples on eBay. They sell them at WalMart, Academy, etc. Simple job to complete.http://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_nkw=M … E+PUMP+NEWI believe you have to remove your prop to get to the lower plug on a 250XS where you drain the old grease and insert the pump adapter to add new grease. Going to need to go to your owners manual or BBC boards for details on that part.

Mercury or Quicksilver HIGH PERFORMANCE GEAR LUBE is the recommended lube.Remove prop, thrust washer and drain plug (engine trimmed “down”).Remove upper “vent” plug.Once COMPLETELY drained, fill from lower plug opening with suitable “pump”. Continue filling until fluid level JUST REACHES the upper “vent” opening (DO NOT OVERFILL til its spewing out). Allow excess to spill out of vent.Reinstall upper vent screw and sealing washer.Remove pump from lower “fill” opening… allow approximately 1-2 ounces to spill out (take your time getting the screw and sealing washer into place). IMPORTANT NOTE: 1-2 ounce comment above is for ORIGINAL TORQUEMASTER and/or Sportmaster model gearcases ONLY. Standard, Servicemaster, or Wingmaster gearcases should be filled “to the bottom of the vent plug” and kept AT THAT LEVEL. Tighten drain/fill screw securely.Reinstall thrust washer and propeller.Capacity:Torquemaster Gearcase (cast-in torque tab on starboard side of skeg): 27-28 ounces.Verado Style Case (no cast-in torque tab): 30-33 ounces.

Thanks everyone. JSLAW mine being a 2011 would it be the original torquemaster, should I allow 1-2 oz to spill out?

You should have the original torquemaster (black or silver) on your engine, thats as long as it was ordered with one, and it has not been swapped out. When looking at the skeg from the rear there is a built in torque tab in the skeg, basically the right side of the skeg bulges out further then the left side, this will verify you have a torquemaster vs. the verado style. All gearcases will be different in relation to exactly how much oil it holds, I have the same as you…. a 2011 torquemaster and my gear case is lucky if it holds 22 oz. Ive spoken with Don at European marine (Which is where the above info came from) about it and he says that some dont hold as much as the capacity says it should and some hold more, said its quite normal. So to answer your question yes allow some oil to drain out, as shown above, once it is full, put the top plug in first, then disconnect the pump, dont be in a rush to install the lower drain plug, grab the new seal and drainplug/bolt and reinstall. I do mine 2x (March/August) per year or 50 hours, whichever occurs first.

JSLAW that is good information just what I was looking for, I do have the black torquemaster. I will allow some to drain out and go from there, again thanks.
