I have this M/G, about 3 years old, works great except for the directional arrow constantly gos off from direction of travel. I ordered and put in couple parts from Jones Trolling Motor but first time I hit heavy moss bed it knocked directional arrow off center again. Not always easy to miss those things and not sure why this keeps happening? I fish Calif. Delta tidal waters with heavy tulles, weeds, hyacinth, moss beds, etc. Anyway anyone knows of to prevent directional arrow from constantly getting out of whack with direction trolling motor head is pointing to? Easy to spin arrow back around to line up but understand all that does over time is make it worse.

The gear in the head cover that controls the arrow likely is stripped or missing teeth? Once the direction is aligned Im not sure how it could get out of alignment unless the gears are slipping

The Idler Gear and the arm that gos directly to the arrow is what I just replaced about 2 weeks or less ago, next trip out same thing happened? I did get those from Jones Trolling Motor at his suggestion to correct the problem. When replaced I did not actually see anything wrong with what I replaced nor anything else?

They arrow can be loose from the actual gear and we seldom do more than reglue them or watch the gear alignment in the head.

It is kinda hard to explain but the metal bracket that holds the gear has too much slop in it. Take a pair of pliers and squeeze the bracket together to tighten it up.That will keep the gears meshed together. I have the same trolling motor and did this about 3 years ago and have not had to adjust it since then.Johnny

Well, not sure re the gear alignment? The plastic gears, none are stripped at all. The metal bracket that holds the larger flat gear is an L shaped bracket screwed in place at both ends of longer portion of the L and cannot see how that can be “squeezed” together at all? That bracket has no give in it al all. The shorter end of the metal L bracket holds the larger flat gear with use of a C clip, again no way I can see that can be adjusted for gears to be tighter. The plastic piece that gos into the arrow is simply a push in place piece as far as can be pushed in, seems to be as tight as it can be pushed in. Maybe possible for the “arrow” to be spinning off that piece, if so other than gluing with contact glue not sure if that would solve problem or not – but at that point that piece and the arrow are not coming apart again, so if it was still spinning off direction would have to get complete new head piece. I see where BCB indicated “reglue” them and since dont think they are glued to begin with not sure about that?

They are compression fit originally with a heat meld. That is where gluing would be possible. The flat plate piece, gears that mesh with the center stem are all the alignment issues. These (flat plates) can sort of creep up on an angle and prevent the gears from meshing.
