hey guys iam running a 23 tempest. on a 2007 sabre 150 EFI iam getting about 59 mph with my gear and me in the boat, it is hard to hold on to at that speed, with chime walk, ive played with the motor hight up and down,i was wondering if trophy would help with some of these problems, and if so what pitch, and if any of you guys are running a blow out ring , thanks guys
http://basscatowners.yuku.com/topic/296 … today.html check this link out. there is a posting from yesterday that should have you covered. A Trophy prop is generally a little slower and slower but more stable generally. Mike
I have an 06 Sabre with XR6 150 also running the 23 tempest. I had a hell of time getting it setup, because I lacked the experience in doing so. After a few months of adjusting the engine and learning to drive I run mid 60s with no walk at all anymore. It just takes some time to get the feeling and setup where it works best for your fishing/driving habits. I am not running a blow out ring. Give it a bit more time with some more adjustments and see how it works for you or see if you can find someone local that may have some time to help with the setup and driving.Jason Desertdweller.com Get Your Bass in the Boat!
Stay with what you have. Once you learn how to drive youll be $400 more in the pocket. The blow out ring is only for Trophy props!
Phil beat me to the blow out ring only being used with a small hub Trophy prop. BC4L, hang in there and get some seat time. The chime walk will go away. I just tried a 23 Trophy on mine and I found the overall preformance actually went down with the four blade. Hole shot was nothing near the Tempest but a blowout ring would improve that, top end lost about 2 mph, but the chime walk was less than the Tempest. So if your main concern is chime walk the Trophy maybe just what you are looking for. I have heard from other members that the Trophy likes to run deeper than a Tempest so you may want to lower your jackplate if you get one. It was a pretty even test for the two since I do not have a jack plate on my boat. YET!!!! Stick with the 23 Tempest or if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, see if you can turn a 25 pitch Tempest. Once I get the jackplate installed that is what I am going to try.
