The wire that is hot when the reverse lights are on sounds like it is not supplying power when in reverse. It will the the furtherest prong from the one that is the female (only female on boat plug). It should be the blue wire.

When in reverse the prong on the truck plug that the blue wire plugs into should have 12v on a meter. If it is good there then trace it back on the trailer. My truck had to be rewired when I bought it for this. I just tapped into the reverse light wire and ran cut the wire on the plug and connected it there.

It sounds like your solenoid on the front coupler is faulty.

Check your reverse lights, and try crossing the wires by plugging them in to the five pin coupling cross ways with the parking lights on.

Go from the brown wire on the vehicle to the blue on the trailer, and see if it back up then.

If it does, then it is a supply wire from your vehicle. If it does not, then it is probably a solenoid.
