Using “ear muffs” to run motor in driveway?

Yes it should discharge the same as it does on the water. It might take a little time for the thermostats to open. If it has lower pick ups under the bullet nose , they should be closed off for idling on a hose IMO

Maybe my question should also be – to run motor out of water, such as in driveway, is all you have to do is hook up a hose to the ear muffs attaching to each side of the lower water intakes? I do this and a lot of water seems to overflow so not sure if being done right? Should the hose to the ear muffs (hose pretty long) be turned on full blast as my home water pressure is not the worlds greatest for sure?

Youre doing it right…its likes to spray out from under the muffs. Theyre not the most efficient things but they do work. I have the holes in front on the cone but the thermostats still open in about the same time.

When you turn your water on with ear muffs hooked up how long should you wait before turning the motor on and bigger question how long from point motor is turned on should the water start coming out of “pee” hole?

Bob,You should use a set that feeds water on each side of the muffs. The hose attaches on one side and also routes water around to the other side as well via a small hose. Also if it has nose cone water inlets like the 3.0L Mercs you should use a seal for those inlets. The nose inlet seal is mercury part number 881150Q 1 – FLUSH KIT Seal. Turn the water on full first then crank the motor. It shouldnt take any longer to start peeing on the hose like this than it does when its in the river or lake.

Must be doing something wrong? Does not PEE (kind of like me at my age sometimes?) I get a normal 18-20## water pressure when running wide open throttle and shoots water out solid very shortly after motor starts. Not really wanting to let go more than 15 seconds or so while in driveway here as dont want motor running long if the water not coming out. I was out this week fishing and was fine then so I know not plugged?

You can duct tape them instead of buying the seal kit, but make sure to take the tape off when you are finished.
