How does one determine size of jackplate?

Your boat already has alot of lift built into it at WOT. Therefore, dont go over 8″. The farther out away from the transom, the more leverage but also the more stress placed on the transom. Look at your current plate and determine if you have a standard bolt pattern (4 bolts) or if you have a 6 bolt pattern. The 6 bolt pattern is currently used by BCB and if so, is likely the only place to get you a jack plate.

Dont know if it helps,but I have an 04 P4,it came with a detwiler from the factory that I thought was a 6 inch,but it is an 8.had a slide master 8 inch hanging on the back while the detwiler was sent back to factory to be updated with new pump,side plates etc.the slide master 8 inch has quite a bit more setback than a detwiler.the detwiler also has 6 bolt pattern,and I am really pleased with the detwiler.it had a bad rap deservedly so,but the new updated unit is sweet.

8″ detwiler really about 7 3/8″. The newer model Detwiler is really reliable!

Older Detwiler plates were just at 7″ on the 90 degree line. The newer ones are just a smidge larger and they are as Phil pointed it reliable. They have more torque than most and are a bit too fast we think.

The new version I have is far superior to the old one,not to mention the first one I had was drilled out to fit the 6 bolt pattern and sat low on transom.the new one has side plates that are designed for a basscat transom with 6 bolts.nothing but good things to say about the new one.
