Humminbird 787 with interlink

I want to connect my 787 to the 717 with the interlink cable to share info and to get a GPS track plot on the 717. Do I also need an extention cable to run from the main control head to the short lead of the interlink cable or will the one interlink cable suffice? My GPS puck will be at the bow with the 717 and the 787 will be in dash. If anyone has a diagram or schematic that would be great. The Humminbird website doesnt provide enough info on how to configure.

There is not a reason to link a 717 as there will not be GPS functions. There will be Temp and thats about all you will gain we think. Unless you have speed and barometer. And were not sure about the Temp linking.

This was in the 717/727 manual. Humminbird 1 800 confirmed it, but I have not seen a plotter screen menu on the unit. I will look into it further and see if my GPS reciver will link up. I just tried it out my AS GR16 GPS Receiver from my 787 on my 717 and a GPS grid popped up with a small boat icon. For now it is worth the price of an interlink cable if it works. This will be pretty cool to have a plotter showing waypoints and routes that I have stored on my console 787 without having to buy a new unit for the bow. Granted it is only a plotter, but that is all I need.

That it will do from our understanding. The Weather Sense and only GPS routing, we dont believe there is mapping. So perhaps the Interlink is worth the cost as long as you know and are allright with those limitations. We had a couple misunderstand the option, so we are hesitant, though you have it right.

Here is a diagram from the yahoo group on sideimaging. This has the cannonlink which you would by-pass and it would connect straight to the unit.
