Spic -N-Span Clean, Battery compartment, what to use

Going on over a year now Im wanting to keep it clean as a whistle..... What do you all suggest I use to clean this area? I thought I read somewhere that adding some dish washing soap and filling the area will get the job done. Has anyone tried this?

I drop a bar of Lava soap in there and it does all the work.

to clean the battery area and get rid of any acid if any, use cider vinegar to neutralize the acid. then just use something like simple green full strength, and hose out.bo

Fly, Simple Green will work but not without some elbow grease. Seems to me there is some kind of black mold that grows back there and will only come off if you wipe or brush it off. Hosing it out hasnt worked for me.Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!

Yeah, I dont know what it is, but when I put a bar of Lava soap in mine it just left a gummy mess all over the pumps and hoses. Just curious, has anyone tried Awesome? It seems to work better than average on a lot of things. Used it the other day to clean the rims on the truck and was well pleased.

Cut the purple power 50 percent with H20 and put it in a spray bottle. Spray bilge, let it sit 2-3 minutes and power wash. May take more than 1 treatment. Works for me.

I dont know why or how, but the bilge area in my 09 Cougar is pretty much spotless. Ive never cleaned it. Its only had some rainwater in it once in a while. I just pump that out and I am good to go.

Whatever you do dont use bleach. It will and does degrade plastics, rubber materials, and your wiring. Just use some simple green with a small scrub brush and rag. It will get rid of any oil residue.

I just use industrial strength degreaser Zep 505 from Home Depot. Spray it on, let is sit for a few minutes, and hose it off. I have never had to use a scrub brush. You might have to do heavily soiled areas more than once. Takes off all of the black scum. I do it about twice a season, and my compartment is as clean as a whistle.
