Baterry trays

Ive got a 2006 Puma with the upgraded aluminim battery trays. My Interstate batteries that came with the boat just about died after 5 hours in the wind on Kerr Lake last week and I want to replace then with Trojans or Optimas. Whats your opinion of these two batteries and what is the biggest group size that will fit in the aluminum trays? I had considered AC Delco but have read they were bought out and dont ofer the maintnenace free options anymore. Thanks

I have the upgraded trays in my FTD, and am running 3 Trojan SCS 225 31 series batteries, and they fit just fine. No problems. Great batteries by the way. The Trojans are the best I”ve ever used, by a wide margin. Mike Whitten

We have been doing extensive battery work these past few weeks. That includes running various brands down with pumps and accessories. In our testing we have now learned that on an average load, the average Tournament angler can not fish 8 hours without placing more voltage (amps) into the average 1000 CCA marine battery. That is the longest life we have seen. And once a (1) particular battery is drained, the future life of all we have tested is progressively worse. The bottom line is that we are taxing batteries today more than we realize, so we must look after them more than we probably are. BCB

Has anyone come up with a solar cell that could work on the cowling/windshield, etc,,,,, for on the water charging ?

I am using 3 Optima D34M dual purpose group 34s. BUT, I run an EFI motor, so you need more cranking on that Opti/DFI engines. However, for trolling motor use, they are good. For me, they are the Cats meow!96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

Is anyone running two batterys on the cranking side? I just wonder if there is enough room, if you are only running a 24v system for the trolling motor. I am thinking of doing this, but I have no clue at this time if it will fit. Since I just ordered the boat the other day.

Sorry, running 3 myself but if someone wants to take a pic of a 4 battery setup I would be happy to post it. I have 4 batteries in mine and is the only way to go. Never and I mean never have I had one issue when it comes to not having enough trolling motor for a full days fishing. That is when I have the time to go !!!! LOL Judd, there is nothing built over the pumps in mine and will take a pic tonight and send it to you. I also managed to squeeze the biggest on board charger that I know of in there. Is a 4 bank 15 amps per bank Minn Kota. Man, will that thing charge up some batteries and I mean quick.
