BCB, are these a good deal in your opinion? I know for cars, the reliable ones atleast, they dont seem to be worthwhile.Are boat motors differiant?

john, it is an extra two years to a total of five years on some brands of engines. Boat motors are different than cars, and the cost to repair a powerhead definitely makes the extended warranties worth looking into. Usually a couple of grand will handle most anything your vehicle has short of a definite major. A boat engine can run almost 5k for either a power head or a gear case. The mention above is that these are offered on some engine brands at no charge at this time. One engine company program just ended also. BCB

I bought a 2006 OPTI with a 3year warranty and purchased an additional 3 years. It covers EVERYTHING except the prop, bent shaft, and water pump. But just as in auto warranties you have to have it serviced at the required times as outlined in the owners mannual. Had a “friend” an attorney, review it and he said it is as good as gold. Also had a friend that blew a power head. Merc replaced it at no charge.Martin

The best and most expensive plan is the Mercury plan. It is available for 2 or 3 years on a standard retail engine. What time of year did you purchase your engine? It may have a warranty on it already, have your dealer check.BCB
