Owner's Board

Prop hieght, Hydrofoil, Jackplate

1998 Sabre150 Merc. EFI24 pitch 4 blade Trophy propStingRay XPRIII HydrofoilNew to me boat.Previous owner put the foil on, unsure why. He was not much of a boater, or played dumb real well. I did test drive it, but the water was pretty rough and I could not really get her going.Anyway took the boat out today for the first time since buying it. The water was great today. Running about 45mph and dropped the hammer. The boat took off like a rocket, but at about 55 I started to hear something odd. It sounded like the prop was ventilating but was hard to tell because of the foil. I could tell the prop was throwing water up in front of the leading edge of the foil. I could not judge the rooster tail because the foil prevents a tail. As a friend was driving it I got on the back deck and could see the foil was out of the water all except for the curled down ends. The center of the foil looked like it was 2" or more above the water surface. op speed by the speedo was 68mph at WOT 5800rpm. Boat seems to pull to the right up on the pad and the trim tab is already adjusted all the way over. If I trim down 3 or 4 bumps, I lose 3-4mph and seem to throw more spray off the sides.Sorry, Im new to the high performance bass boating scene. I had a Stratos before. Questions1. is the Trophy prop a good prop? 2. right pitch? (Cant afford a new prop right now.)3. What would you recommend for jack plate height and how to measure and adjust it? 4.Do I need the foil? Does it hurt or help? Im not that big of a fan of them.
