Hydraulic Jackplate

Im currently running an 08 Puma with 250 Pro XS and am looking to add a hydraulic jackplate. This is the first boat I have ever owned without on because it was bought used and I waited til this fall to do this. My question is what do yall as a forum recommend? Ive always run a Bobs but Detwiler seems to be the one more talked about on the forum. Which one is better and what are the pros and cons of me going from 6 inches of setback to 8?

The Bobs is a good plate, and they make a 6 bolt for Bass Cat. Though the plate does not quite allow enough lower travel for a Bass Cat. We dont have a high slip factor, thus the engines need to run lower than some other brands. That is why the Detwiler is the preferred plate. We do use Bobs on salt water models. BCB

Do you mean it doesnt go low enough? Not meaning to sound dumb but what is a high slip factor? And what about the difference between six and eight inches of setback?

to my same set up. Easy job, works excellent and allowed me the flexibility on engine height I was looking for…..I coudnt be happier with it.

Slip is created by the engine being too high or trimmed out too far. Slip is the prop slipping in the water and forward thrust is not obtained. Any hydraulic plate that you get with a BCB will be an 8″ plate. The Detwiler actually measures about 7 3/8″, but is the 8″ model. Most of the time the farther the engine is set behind the boat, the less positive trim needed to raise the bow of the boat. If you want a hydraulic jack plate for your BCB you have the choice of two…………..a Detwiler or a Bobs. Thats the only two with a 6 bolt pattern. Both are good jack plates. I prefer the Detwiler since Ive had good luck with them for many years. Good luck with your decision as it is a costly add-on.

The slip factor is slippage of the propeller in the water and BCB models tend to hook up well, while some brands slip till they hook up. As a result BCB models dont run well if the engine is the least bit higher into slippage. Whereas some boats dont loose that much though usually dont run as efficiently.
