Hummingbird Software Upgrade

I am having a heck of a time trying to get any use out of my new units. I have a 898 and 958 linked together. All they do is fight one another and dont talk. I downloaded the upgrades onto my scan disk and put it in the unit....Nothing! No recognition, caput! Can anyone tell me why in the world the units will not talk to each other and why the screens are locking up. The software is the same on both units. Is it in the link box, is it a power loss, power surge, virus, the russians, spam, or just plain ole incompetence on my part. The units are new in February this year. Please help. I have $3,500 worth of space shuttle type electronics and am forced to measure depth using the end of my rod.

Are you linking directly with Ethernet cables or are you using the interlink box to network your units?

Beckler,Try the Humminbird 800 number. If that doesnt work to get you some help then next week contact Bobby in house at BCB and he will get you a contact who will work with you.

If the memory card was new did you format it first? You could try deleting the files on the card and re download the upgrade.Bob

go look at the interlink box and see if the cables are connected from your units.they were not on mine.maybe this is why both of my units 998si and 788c updates went ok with SEPARATE updates.plugged in the cables and interlink acknowledged both.it sounds as though something else is going on as depth readings should not be affected.INTERLINK is only designed to share WAYPOINTS as i have researched

Do you have a Navionics map card in one or both of the units? If so, remove it and see what happens.Have you set up an account on-line at the humminbird web site and registered your units? If not do that, register your units and download latest software. Youll need an SD card to upload the software onto your units. Make sure you get software upgrade for BOTH units. If you only do one it wont work properly. This is all pretty easy to do, just takes a little time.Then contact humminbird and theyll give you directions how to reset the interlink.
