How do you buy a Bass boat?

I know, it sounds like a dumb question. My DH has researched and driven and decided he wants a Puma Bass cat. We are in Washington. There is one dealership across the state, one in another, one in another etc. What would you suggest? Get on the phone and see what inventory is out there, would you special order. Obviouly he cant go state to state and check them all out. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes, see what the dealers who are closest to you have in stock and which ones will work for you both. By special ordering you get to pick your own options and colors. Some people prefer to do this but normally you can get a dealer inventory boat slightly cheaper. You have to decide if it is worth getting a boat built to your specs. Depending on your needs/wants a dealer might have what you are looking for. Good luck. Judd Lasiter

Hello. Im in the Seattle area and own a Sabre. I got my boat from American NW outdoors in Fruitland, Idaho. The owner Jim Wells met he halfway on delivery and I picked up the boat and test drove it on the Columbia river. Smooth transaction. Sue, your two (2) closest options are American Northwest and Mossdale. Both will do a good job answering you or your Dear Husbands questions. One is probably closer to you than another. Though your choice is to make a decision from the gut feeling you get that you will be happier with one of them. We do not have a preference, and we think you will find competitive prices from either of those two dealers. Mossdale is a larger facility, family owned and operated, and will have a fair amount of inventory. Which helps if you want to make a selection. American Northwest is a smaller facility and will custom order your rig usually, as will Mossdale or any other BCB dealer if you prefer. Either will be able to answer most of your questions and we think a phone call will get you pointed where you feel you need to go. The rest is up to you and your DH! We will always be here to answer any of your questions, and we see you are registered, so you can hop on anytime next week when we close the board down again to only Registered Users. Sue, I have to compliment your husband. He did an excellent job of selecting a wife, so selecting a boat should be a walk in the park. Many wives will not get involved with the boat selection process at all, much less help from the get go. I hope you both enjoy your new “Cat”.

Sue, the only problem I had picking up my boat by meeting the dealer halfway (about 150 mile drive) was it would have taken huge problems to drive away without the boat. BCB dealers from what Ive heard, and experienced, are excellent and VERY accommodating. That said, theyre not perfect either. If you do end up having it delivered Id suggest you have a long conversation before hand about your expectations of the condition of the boat. My boat wasnt detailed; it had rust from sitting out in the elements, and other minor problems. Dont get me wrong, I love my boat and BCB was wonderful in assisting me in getting things right. My feeling at the time though was I just spent a lot of money on something that I had to work on right off of the bat. I think it would have been better if I had taken delivery at the dealer — it would have been worth the extra couple of hours on the road. Good luck, your familys going to love BCB!

Sue, one more thing. This maybe totally irrelevant because you guys maybe very clear on what you want and how your going to use the boat.. But in my case, sometimes I think I would have been better off with a Bay Cat (its a center console, saltwater capable boat). I didnt really do much looking into it as I was locked into a bass boat. But after seeing the quality and versatility of the Bay Cat it might have fit me better than my Pantera II. Theyre ALL awesome boats, but it would have been nice to have the capability to go out on saltwater on occasion. Again, dont let me give the wrong impression, I LOVE my boat–it superbly built, fast, stable — nothing but praise for its quality — but that Bay Cat sure looks awesome too!

Basstar…well someone has to pay for it while hes out fishing. LOL John 1112…That is our intenet, to take delivery at the dealership. I am the Finance Director at a car Dealership and completely understand the excitement an “ether” of a major purhase.
