McDonalds Tourament On Lake Fork

It was good to see a number of Bass Cat Boats at the McDonalds Tournament this past weekend and I hope some of you fishermen went home with some money in your pockets. Sad news, we did have a very serious accident on Friday in which 2 boats collided and one person died and I heard 2 more were seriously injured. Some of you may have remembered my view of and problems with the Skeeter tournament a couple of months ago which I mentioned my concern for possible safety issues for boaters who participate in these large type of affairs on the lake. Well the worst has happened and it is very very sad and my prayers and condolences go out to the families of the individuals involved. I truly believe that all contestants should go through an orientation covering rules of boating while on the lake and remind the fishermen that they are guest at the lake and that they show sportsmanship and courtesy to the other participants and land owners on the lake. I also believe that TX Parks And Wildlife should have a presence on the water that might remind the participants that they could be ticketed for unsafe use of boats on the lake. Just my thoughts!

Tank Man I agree with you about the number of boats. I dont know what you do about it and I know I will get blasted but we need a speed limit or something when you have that many boats fishing a tournament. One of the other bad things about the accident is that both boats were Lake Fork locals. I agree with both of you. I have not been to Fork in several years, but unless they have done a lot of work, those lanes are not that wide anyhow. Accidents happen every year, but most can be avoided with common sense. Sad situation, thanks for the pictures. Speed definitely kills, especially when not handled properly! This tragedy could have been worse, at least 2 people were able to walk away, especially the pregnant young lady.

What a sad thing. My prayers are out to the families involved. Lets all be careful and couteous. My dad who was the consumate bass fisherman had a small sign inside his boat that read, “Capt. T. J. Claud, Safe, Reliable and Courteous”. I know things happen but I have always tried to live by this while on the water.

Accidents happen and this one a tragic one. I hope the families affected by this event are able to move on with life as we are all suppose too. Much easier said than done I realize but I hope it is possible. I will never be in favor of more regulations and people need to take responsibility of their own actions. We have laws in place now to protect people from themselves and I dont agree with bigger govt only a smaller one. Judd Lasiter

We too saw those images of the boat upside down with only a portion of the hull exposed, and the severity of the damage on the impacted boat. It is a mess and a shame. Things like this happen more often in vehicles and roadways. They seldom happen in aircraft and boats and when they do we notice it more. We all need to be careful and watch pressing the envelope. We all enjoy it, though we also need to respect the speeds these are capable of and attain. We have frequently related it to a country road, think ARkansas or TN country road, and would you drive your SUV at 80 on those country roads. No you would not for respect of your safety. These are no different, and there are consequences for our actions, unfortunately those consequences also impact our loved ones and others in humanity. Lets just all be careful out there!
