RECESSED TRAY FOR TROLLING MOTOR FOOT CONTROLL

HELLOI HAVE AN 85 CARACAL AND WOULD LIKE TO INSTALL A RECESSED TRAY FOR THE TROLLING MOTOR FOOT CONTROL. CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THERE ARE STRUCTUAL SUPPORT ON THE CASTING BETWEEN THE FRONT STORAGE AND FRONT OF BOAT? I cannot remember from my old one if there is any foam under the front deck, but back then the decks were a glassed plywood sheet, so you will definitely have to seal any of the wood that you cut through with fiberglass resin so that you do not get rot.

The tray will fit, though not with much room. The front foam chamber is going to compromise the flotation. Odds are it could have some moisture in the foam chambers after 32 years and they may be compromised. If you did cut it we would suggest you seal the foam chamber with fiberglass before inserting the tray.

yea my 93 PII have the foam chamber, cut into it, cut out the foam, in my boat I had a hose running under the foam from the front of the boat, I cut the foam down to the hose and taped into it for the drain from the pan. Then fiberglass all the foam.

Brent, my family also has an 85 Caracal and we were contemplating the same thing as we are in the process of thinking about replacing our dear old cat… Shes been with us since she was new. So in the meantime we are going through a few upgrades to get us by until we get into a newer one. Within a few weeks we are going to start building a deck extension and new rod box lids as we (me) need more deck room for tournament and fun fishing. Years ago my dad and uncle brought it back to BCB to have some seats made in place of the rod box lids to make it sort of a “Fish-N-Ski” to accommodate the ladies of the family lol. I wish we still had the old lids to reuse. About 6 years ago we re did the carpet and made some new lids for the rod boxes but they dont fit too extremely well. Im excited for the upcoming season and to get to work on this much needed update.Dan Yonan. ———————————————————
