Is BCB going to make a boat that will hold this beast???
800 pounds roughly, no…
Of what it would look like. Guy was advertising the old torque-shift props for land and sea, has the motor trimmed out as far as possible and is in the boat with the bow pointing at something beyond 45 degrees upward. When the first black max 100 (inline 6) came out, I had a friend with a very light racing boat that bought one and strapped it on the back of a boat that was 14 long. Backed it in and it followed the trailer right under water.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
If there is a will there is a way, maybe a 23 footer with the fuel tanks running down the sides toward the front flat under the rod lockers with at least 108″ or 110″ at the rear with added flotation. just guessing or wishing. With the right prop and set-up I would 105 maybe 110 mph. Everyone can dream.
Champion took their 21 boat and strapped 2 merc racing motors on the back. I saw it at one of the boat shows (maybe even a BM Classic event) when it was exhibited in the civic center here. So yes, it can be done, and it didnt take any hull mods. However those racing motors are under 400 pounds for each, so two of em would be 800. Main thing is that those racing motors probably made more horsepower each than that yammer. I dont remember what they claimed for speed. No idea what it did to fishability as I didnt see it sitting in the water. Perhaps the back passenger had waves lapping at his feet for all I know. But Id bet that running, it would get you there in a _BIG_ hurry. 2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
OT57,I also saw a 21 foot boat in a magazine several years back, am thinking it was also a Champion but the one that I saw had two Mariners on it. Best I remember reading in the article the top speed was somewhere around the 100 mph mark.
The more I think about it, I think they might have been the mariner equivalent of the merc pro-max (I think they were called super-magnums or something similar). Which was a sort of intermediate motor between the stockers and the full racing motors. Friend had a 200 that was max rpm of 6500, vs 5500 for a normal 200. The racing motors run to 7500 blindfolded and some of us have run em to 10 grand for short periods of time and they make serious horsepower up there. However, if they were super-mags or whatever they called them, they were still nearly 400 pounds a pop. And they were on 12″ jackplates so that weight was _way_ back there. And according to the photos, it floated. Only problem with a boat like that would be fuel consumption. Friends super-mag 200 was burning almost 25 gallons per hour. The duals would double that. It might suck your wallet right into the motor through the fuel tank. Can you imagine a boat that would cost $150 per hour to run? begins to sound like a Gulf charter boat..2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

That 21 Champ would only run into the 80s. Though it did draw some attention, which was their purpose. The 260 and 280 High Performance Mercury engines will burn out just at 50 Gallons Per Hour at WOT. That is per engine. BCB
I plead ignorance. I have never run a 280 for an hour. Most of my runs have been for 10+ seconds. but they certainly suck fuel like a camel that hasnt seen water in a year… But then again they propel a boat like an insane rocket motor.I never saw the Champion in water. Ones I have ridden in were heavy and not fast hulls. I saw it on a huge “up in the air” display and it was impressive to look at. But “impractical” and “idiotic” are the two words that first come to mind unless one wants to take a bass boat way out in the gulf where dual engines would increase the safety factor. And probably lead to a kidney transplant as well. 2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
