Looking at an 04 Pantera with a 200 EFI. Never ran a black motor before. Running a carbd OMC now, so the fuel consumption isnt scary. Are there any known common ailments to check for / ask about on the Merc?Other than not knowing the Merc motors, the only issue so far is fixed tongue on the trailer. Garage space may be a deal killer. Taking a tape measure with Thanks for any input.

If it is a 3.0 litre 200 the only downside is you better hang on cuz that is one bad beast!!!! If there is 1 motor that will make that PIV run that is the 1.If it is the 2.5 200 then it will be a great dependable motor and probably a little sluggish on hole shot but will do a fine job.As you said they like gas and oil but any of the 200 Mercs are the cream of the crop in my opinion. I had a 99 200EFI that was flawless and my buddy had a 3.0 and they really are 2 completely different motors.Good luck!!!Judd Lasiter
Have a shop make it into a pivot tongue if it wont fit. Also a 3 liter EFI is a monster that will run for as long as the fuel tank will let you. Assuming it is a 3 liter. The 2.5 block is a good engine though a bit light on torque for a P4. The 3.0 200 EFI is extremely dependable.BCB
Thanks everyone. The boat is actually an 04 Classic and the advertisement says the 200 is a 3L EFI. Any sure way to tell the difference on the block? Running carb OMC now with a fuel pump that must be rated at 50GPH, so fuel compsumption wouldnt be a big suprise. Adding the swing tongue will most likely be a must. Dang subdivision covenants, cant even talk up a detached garage / workshop to put it in and addition to the existing prohibited due to lot layout. Getting back outside city limits is looking better all the time.
On a Classic…that even makes it more FUN!!!! That thing is a rocket ship, enjoy! Outside of the real real fast boats you will be blowing by almsost all 225s with that setup.Judd
Thanks again for the input folks. Boat turned out to be a dual console, so still looking. Anyone interested in a late model, low hours, dual console Classic with a 3L 200 EFI, the boat is now listed on the BFHP page with pics.
