Little “blip” in my pro XS are plugs a do it yours

My 05 225 Pro XS has a little miss at low RPM. While this seems to clear up with a little gas it is not getting any better so I figure it probably needs plugs (around 100 hours). Is this a do it your self job? I know some need to be indexed but did not see much in the manual. And yes I see where one of the bottom plugs will be a bear! I will take her in this fall for the 100 hour stuff but lots of good fishing before I am ready for that cold weather!

I am no expert on these motors but it does sound like you need new plugs. Form what I have seen and read these motors do go through some plugs. ( I run a 225 Pro XS also ) My motor also had a little hicup in it when I first bought it with about 50 hours on it. I replaced the plugs and have not had a problem sense. Yes, there were a couple of them that were pretty tight and hard to get to. Good thing I got small hands and was not to bad. Those plugs are pretty expensive also and your best bet would be to order them off the internet. Good LuckJoey

Indexing is not a major deal on the Optis, like other engines. The miss may be plugs, or it could be a reed. The reed is the hard one to figure out. We seldom think plugs really are the issue on one, though everyone puts plugs in as habit we feel. None of here ever change our plugs, and some of us put plenty of hours on one. BCB

The bottom plugs are kinda tough, but you can take a short piece of 3/4 water hose and after you get the plug broke loose, slip the hose over the plug and twist her out.. really not a prob.. the hose will bend where it needs to bend. Just be patient and take your time.. do force anything..

OK I will pull the plugs tonight and see what they look like before “investing” in a new set!

Its really a good idea to torque the plugs to mfg specs with a torque wrench. I know some are hard to get too, if you work at it you can get it done.Martin
