Trailer Roller Mod (as mentioned in a previous post)

This mod was spawned from me getting my trailer a little to deep on my previous Cat and chipping up the gel on the front end. I tried to do it with a dremel and it made a big mess because the roller is to soft. What worked best was a utility knife with a fresh blade. Obviously these 2 outside rollers will not turn after I did this but it won't go in between the inner and outer roller. We would like to be able to purchase these already molded like this, though have not been able to accomplish that yet, and the job others have tried to sell us is pretty low QC©

Excellent idea! I also had the same problem. I’m calling Scotty today to order a set. I have my utility knife ready with some fresh, sharp blades.

Thanks for the pics of that mod .. I ordered a new roller yesterday and some gel coat to fix the scratch/gouge on my bow … I still would like to have a SST piece molded to fit the bow where the roller rides … kinda like the way the hambys works … Ill be a roller cutting fool this weekend ..

No problem guys. It took me longer than it should’ve because I am so anal about the boat stuff. Didn’t want gaps and crooked rollers LOL!

As you can see in the pictures, that little mold mark on the outside of the roller is about the correct depth to cut.

Turbo…I seem to remember Hamby’s or Keelshield once made a bumper that would go all the way over the bow eye.

I had that SS protective piece on a previous boat and it chewed up the roller pretty bad. I think that if you mount the softer black roller you won’t have the chipping issues. I ordered my black roller today.

Actually we have had a few others do this with other methods and by hand cutting them out, using everything form a sabre saw and hand saw to a blade.
