Topic: prop selection for 06 cougar with 250 hpdi yamaha

i am running a 27 yamaha prop currently and the engine is turning 5700 rpm with a half load of gas 2 people and tourny load. the gps is saying 74- 75 mph. just curious what a 28 pitch would do. does anyone have any suggestions or is this gonna be my best performance with what i am currently running?

Was wondering if you had tried coming up with the jack plate at all on this rig. I would think that you should see a little more top end out of that combination. If you have not done that then it is what I would try next. Try moving it up a quater inch at a time and see what happens. Good Luck

Nothing wrong with moving it up until you get some steering torque.I think you are running pretty darn good. I personally would want the motor turning no minimum of the 5700 that you are at now. Most people will run that motor up to 6K without any ill effects.Sound like you arent to far off now…I wouldnt go up in pitch though.Judd Lasiter
