royal purple gear oil

any opinions on using royal purple gear oil in lower unit of 2009 250 pro xs..are there different viscocities?? heard good things but i am reluctant to use products like stabil,etc..thanks in advance for any info.

I use it in my 150 EFI. Seems to work fine and the reports I have read say it is a good oil.

Why wouldnt you use what Mercury recommends?

Unless you are an over-the-top gear head/wrench, I would stay with what Merc recommends.I rebuild over-powered gearcases and my buddy Larry Swanson does Harley drag bike transmissions, so I get to look at what I put in.
