05 Puma with 225 Evinrude

Ill be picking up an 05 puma with a 05 225 direct injection Evinrude with hydrolic jack plate. There is currently a 26 pitch trophy on the boat. It ran 69 mph gps, I dont feel that this is the right prop for that boat (I think it original had a temptest on it as it was listed that way on dealer web page.....any) What props & pitch do you reccomend I try?

Glad you like the new model floor plan in the Puma!The proper propeller for this HO 225 Evinrude combination is a 27 Trophy for most folks. The 28 runs on top very well though slips in corners and coming out of the hole. It might be faster though. We suggest time on the wheel after you get it broken in to begin setting it up. It is a very nice package. BCB

Ive got a standard Cougar with a 2003 225HO. The 28″ Trophy is terrific. In the PVS holes, I use 2 small hole and 2 medium hole plugs. This eliminates all blow-out / slip yet I still have a great hole shot. Top speed is fantastic too (with full fuel and tackle, but no passenger, Ive hit 80.7mph gps). Since the PUMA is heavier the 27″ may be better. With either one, play around with the PVS vent plugs to get the ventilation the way you want it. Im sure you will enjoy your rig!

Got with Ivan and put a 28 pitch trophy on it, will run about 73 gps at 5800-6000 rpm. Thanks for the help on the set up! (see post in general) Will be spending more time on the water learning to drive it

with a 28 trophy I have got up to 75.45 but most often Im about 70-72……..have 4 batteries, full tank and 2 people……running about 5800 rpm…..noticed its a little harder to get out of the hole when having livewells full and had to move some tackle to the front of the boat which helped.
