Mercury switches

This is one thing i think BCB could simplify, with a simple single switch controlling all the interior box lights. This would improve the failure rate of all the switches(which is not bad), and contact points, and maybe eliminate some expense in the build. Surely i can turn on a single switch if i want in a box at night ? Would lessen possibility of battery drain with a faulty switch as well. Just a thought, D.BCB Note: They are each on a manual switch now DB and no more mercury switches, the full lights to activate would be an excessive battery drain. Also check the switch under the lid has not come loose. A light wasnt working under one of my seats and it all I had to do was screw the nut down tighter.

Jon get a long jumper wire hook it to the neg. side of the cranking battery and if I remember correctly touch that wire to the end of the wire that comes from the switch and bolts to the hinge if the light comes on the you have a bad ground if not then you have a bad switch alot of mine just needed the bolt tightened . Someone correct me if Im wrong I havent looked at them in a while.

It is usually the grounds and not the switch. Older boats used the hinge bolts to ground the lid and this comes loose causing a poor connection. BCB

Mine loose ground through the lid almost every time i fish in a rainstorm . I have been thinking i would try taking the nut and washer off , pack it with di-electric grease and re assemble with as much contact as possible . I would love to hear any bright ideas on this on ? has anyone converted to the new switch setup ?

The best idea I can think of is to run a ground wire up both sides from the battery just for the compartment lights. Ive just been too lazy to do it myself. I hate trying to pull wire through boats. It would be nice if there were grounds already running to the front that we could tie into.
