Clarification on tire ages and shelf life

The conversations here led us to dig into tire aging and shelf life. After consulting the tire industry, looking for regulations and specs, it seems there is no regulation on tire aging. The industry standard is five years for mounting from the date code. Shelf life for most distribution is determined to be four years, which places the tire in sales stores for mounting within the five year suggested span. We have since become aware of tire date codes and we will be more cautious in house. At no time did any tire mentioned Or that we are aware of, or our mounting of a tire, extend itself beyond the production date code beyond five years of age, which is the mentioned industry standard. There have been efforts regulate tire dates, to use at install to a 6 year period or less. The answer to the age question we found is that technically there is no regulation controlling tire age.
