Trolling Battery Size-AGM

looking for others” opinions on what size trolling motor batteries are really needed in a Cougar with 36-volt Minn Kota Ultrex. I used Goup 31 AGM Trollers in my last boat for that setup , but I am wondering if Group 27 AGM are sufficient as they are a little lighter. Any body had any experieince with this?

I really like the AGM and will stick with those.

I went with group 31 AGM’s as spotlock when used is constantly on so I think if you go with group 27 you might run out of juice by the end of the day.

I would stick with the 31’s. Because of their larger Reserve Capacity (210 vs 185), they will give you longer life span than the 27’s. Best deal around for 31 AGM’s is the Duracell/Deka at Sam’s for 179 dollars each.

You can definitely run group 27 series AGMs for your trolling motor.   I run 3 group 31’s but I’m only running a 3 battery system for a 36 volt troller with one serving as a cranker also.   With a 4 Battery system I would definitely go group 27’s. As suggested above, SAMs has Duracell AGM’s at a spectacular price.  Group 27’s are only $158.00.

Sam’s has the AGM’S on sale for 20.00$ off till late march. I am going to get 3 27’s in the the next week or so. I really do not need the 31’s so I will save about 30 LB’s and 60 bucks. I do run a 31 AGM for my cranking battery and have been very pleased with it.   Ed
