Motor Guide to Ultrex Swap

I would like to change out the factory installed Motor Guide trolling motor, on my 2015 PII, to a new Ultrex. Has anyone done this on their PII? I’m not wanting any existing holes left unused. I didn’t know if the mounts would line up, or if there is an adaptor plate that could be used. Thanks for any input.

I did this on my Eyra.  No new holes to drill.  There is a plate (can’t recall if it’s on the port or starboard side) when removed exposes a set of holes in the trolling motor mount that lines up with the motor guide mount.

Make that “lines up with the Ultrex Mount”.

The Motorguide uses 4 holes for mounting, the Ultrex uses 6 so you would drill two more holes.  The 4 existing Motorguide holes will line up with the Ultrex mount after you remove the right side plate of the Ultrex.   The Ultrex will need a 60A breaker and Basscat uses 50A, so a new breaker will be needed.  I suggest one with a cutoff ability and then hard wire to the plug receptacle up front.  Looks cleaner up front and you don’t have to “work around” the plug  on the side with the footpedal.  I can ship the Ultrex if interested.

Follow up question on breakers. I replaced the 50 Amp with the 60 Amp breaker, W/disconnect, on the positive cable feeding the trolling motor. But what about the 50 Amp breaker, that Bass Cat installs on the jumper, between the two batteries? Should this be upgraded to a 60 Amp too? I didn’t see an offering in the Bass Cat store for anything larger than a 50 Amp. Thanks in advance.

Bass Cat, what are you currently using with the installs of the Ultrex, concerning the breaker that is between the two batteries. (On the 24v set up) Are you still using the 50 amp, or have you gone with a higher 60 amp ?

I’ve installed several Ultrex’s on Basscats.  The breaker in the jumper can be removed and use a 6ga jumper.  If you’re using a On/off breaker, then you can also hardwire the trolling motor by drilling a small hole in the plate that holds the plug receptacle, then taking the wires from the trolling motor through that hole and connecting them to the back side of the receptacle with the battery wires.  This eliminates fighting the plug in a very confined space.
