Mixing Pennzoil marine premium plus 2 cycle oil with Lucas Marine 2 cycle oil

I have a 2000 Mercury 200 EFI that I have ran Pennzoil premium plus 2 cycle oil in for years. I am low in tank and looking to convert to Lucas marine oil 2 cycle. Less smoke I am told. Should I completely remove the old Pennzoil first before I fill with Lucas? Does it hurt the motor to mix?

It won’t hurt it to mix them but you’re kind defeating the purpose if you don’t dump the tanks. Remember, you have a tank on the side of the motor too. I’ve mixed oils for years.

Different styles of Oils clabber if they stand, and they turn to a stringy wet cheese looking mess. Those can clog the screens and damage oil pump operation.

Mixing them is fine if you use your boat regularly. It is not a good idea if you use your boat less than a few hours a month. You have to use the boat enough to run the existing oil through the system. Those that sit are the one that give issues.
