If you havn’t already done so, or for the benefit of others that may cross this path in the future:
The less stressful way of doing what you want to do is to run a purple wire from the positive side of the voltmeter (if so equipped) to the bilge area of the boat and tie in there. I havn’t been under the cowl of a 4stroke, but on the 2stroke there was a plug with a purple wire that was terminated. It was used to plug a diagnostic equipment into. We would match the connection with another bullet connector, use it and if the diagnostic needed the use of the plug, they would just unplug the appliance and connect.
