Compartment lid shocks – Caracal

I have a 2020 Caracal and for the second time I'm looking at having to replace or fix the starboard side rod locker lid shock.  No problems with any of the others but I use this locker for tackle so in/out of it often during the day.  Problem I have is the bottom connection just falls off.  I replaced shock once before a couple years ago and it's acting up again falling off.  It's like the clip or ball gets out of shape and just won't stay in place.  I think part of the problem is I'm not always careful with my trays of baits (hard baits in Plano boxes) and some times they may put pressure on shock when I close locker.  Also I noted in picture for shocks in BCB Store, the piston end of shock is on top and I'm pretty sure I had it the other way around.  Don't know if that would matter but I'd thought I'd mention.  I've tried bending clip so it would hold tighter but it didn't seem to help.  Is this a common problem?  I've been on Owners forums going back three website designs and can't recall seeing it discussed.  I think it happened in my Classic too now that I think about it but maybe once or twice in 11 years.  Any ideas?  I'm was just going to order new piston and also the bracket this time.  The ball connection at each end seem fine so I'm guessing it's the shock at issue but welcome some insight so I can get what I need and not have to replace them every year.  Fishing season finally off the ground here upstate NY and VT and want to get at it.
