Rear hub heat

I replaced the torsion arms and hubs several weeks ago. I got my mechanic to adjust the surge brakes and thought all was good. Something is wrong as the truck is feeling the load and it’s like the brakes are dragging. I took the trailer for a 12 mile run and the hubs are too hot to touch. It does seem like it’s a brake issue as you can spin the hub and the pads are barely touching.  I am lost.

Please provide whether single or tandem trailer and the type of bearings you have. If your trailer is wired for a 5 wire plug, you may want to splice in 12 volts of power to the blue wire which should be the solenoid to interrupt the brakes for backing up. This should allow you to tow and only stop the trailer with the tow vehicle brakes and should eliminate the heat coming from dragging brakes, if the wheel spins freely before you start.

Often that is the emergency brake cable having been pulled. There is a release tab under the front coupler, and there is a possibility that the cable is kinked. If that cable is kinked then it will need reset manually by pressing the cable into the coupler by hand to release it. The other issue can be the brake calipers binding and not releasing. There is definitely pressure on the calipers it sounds like.
