Padding for front deck

Question to BCB

What type of padding do y’all use for the padded front deck option?  I am looking at redoing the carpet in my P2 this winter and would love to add the padding for the front deck.  I haven’t seen it listed in the BCB Store so I was curious if you could give some insight.  Is the process for the adhesive any different or do you glue the pad down, then glue the carpet over the pad using the same adhesive?

Also curious as to what the best tool for cutting the edge of the carpet is?  Every time I have done carpet in older boats, it always wants to unravel at the edges, and I don’t really want that when I do the deck on the P2.

We have not offered or released the padding we found for carpeted decks. There is a California vendor with a very similar material and we will get their contact information for you.

We cut the carpeting with a hook knife and razor knives. We trim it up with large Wiss brand poultry scissors. Quality carpeting and thicker material doesn’t unravel nearly as bad.

And we suggest Weldwood brand contact cement as a carpet adhesive. Double stick adhesion (carpet and part glued) is best and it’s hard to get good placement. A broom stick will help to retain the carpeting and roll it up when installing, unroll it as you progress slowly.

Spread the glue with a brush on the boat, pour the glue out and squeegee the glue on the back side of the carpeting, with a plastic squeegee.

One of the things I did on my Classic was add carpet trim around the edge on the front deck. Looks cleaner and will help prevent fraying.  Self adhesive and an easy install. You can see it in this pic.
