Hello, are the hubs on the 2023 pantera trailer filled with grease or oil?

2023 trailer, grease.  They got away from the Vault Hubs with oil a few years ago because of problems.  What specifically is the issue?  A new trailer like yours isn’t going to need grease added.  BCB recommends NOT using grease fitting on Buddy system to add grease.  Normally grease is good for at least five years.  If the hubs do need service, the recommendation is to pull them, clean and repack, then leave them alone for another 5 years at least.  Most damage (usually blown out seals) is caused by pumping in to much grease via grease fittings.  Check your hubs after towing a significant period of time.  If they are no more that warm to the feel, you are good to go.   Enjoy your rig.

Thanks for the reply,  I  was under the impression that the pressure of the spring insured grease gets to the inner bearing, but if what you say is true, that makes it a lot easier….  Thanks again

I would strongly encourage you to go back to the new Vault bearings, they are using a new oil formulated to pretty much last forever. I have packed bearings for years including bearings for high-performance racing (round track) and the Vault is the only way to go. I use a laser temp “gun” to shoot my hubs every time I stop for gas when pulling my fully loaded Puma. Have seen very little temperature fluctuations even under higher July / August temperatures. The warranty against failure is also a nice option, if you have questions call Dexter Axle. They were very helpful to me and spent about 30 minutes on the phone going over the new oil and the testing they put it through.

I’ve never owned the Vault hubs or do I want to, but if I remember the complaints about them on here correctly the issue was the system developed leaks that let oil out and water in, not the oil itself.  A better oil isn’t going to address that problem I wouldn’t think.  If I remember right, folks liked the system when it didn’t leak.   I’m sure there are owners here that had them that can speak to the issues better than I.  I know there were enough complaints about Vault hubs that BCB moved back to grease packed bearings.

schodackbasman – Personally I have not had any issue with an oil leak on my Vault bearings, and I chose them as most of my trips are longer in distance than most. I have seen normal bearing grease breakdown over time now and then on near consistent long distance pulls, but all types are subject to failure in truth. Like I noted, I use a digital laser temp “gun” and record the temps trip vs. trip to catch any change in temps asap.
