Livewells Turning Off – Looking for Advice

Looking for some advice. I had this issue last summer and posted about it, my 2021 Jag did not have the copper washers between the battery and the brass terminals so I installed those. I didn’t seem to have any issues for another month or so.

I fished the first tournament of the season a couple weeks ago and both the recirculating and aerator pumps went off about 6.5-7 hours into the day. They turned on again as soon as I hit the button again. I then checked all the terminals and tightening everything thinking something may have loosened. I fished another one on Saturday and watched both lights go out as soon as the big motor rolled over. Again about 6.5-7 hours into the tournament.

The Pro Guide agm reads 12.9 cooled down after a full charge with no load. It read 12.5 with no load after fishing an 8 hour tournament. I’m only running two Solix 12’s off that battery. The battery is almost 3 years old is it possible that it’s just failing? Just trying to fix this before losing fish, any thoughts are appreciated.

Long day with quite a bit of stuff running off that battery. I would suspect it. With such a new boat pretty sure that would be a four stroke. Mercury has approved it for Lithium. Less weight, more power. Symptoms point to battery.

It’s possible it is weak, though a good long charge cycle is needed to bring the battery up. With todays electronics demands on batteries, they only need one bad charge cycle to start a problem. Just not plugging in till late one evening and starting early that next morning can short charge one. One short charge is our suspect, so be sure it’s got one full charge and comes up to 12.8 volts, at the battery, after sitting static for 30 minutes.

The ProGuide AGM has been very good, they either fail or work. Some of the Odyssey brand 31 AGM’s we have seen a slight issue with not staying up on long use cycles  We found much of that is short charge cycles, so eliminate that with a fresh full long charge to verify it.

Lithium or AGM they have to be full charged
