Go where you should…. First, it could be a bad cartridge motor, which is the first option. Switch the cartridge with another that is functioning properly. If that other cartridge shut down, then it’s possible the circuit protection in the dash is weak. It also could be low voltage which is something to check also. They could have moisture in those fields which Rob more power and shut things down.
On the battery:
We suggest a small copper washer be placed under both connections on both cranking battery terminals. This is a standard practice now and it resolves much of the connection issues on terminal posts as they age. The battery is likely not a problem on most, though inadequate charges and poor connections are more common.
Today we place high demands on our cranking batteries and getting them up to snuff requires a long charge cycle. They also may see shorter life from the previous charging cycles, which shorten battery life if they are not discharged when they next charge happens. It’s a life span shortening cycle when they aren’t discharged. This was not an issue until we placed todays demands on them. Color units, now scope and 360, then multiple graphs and more eat into the power.
