02 p3

Have a question for bcb or anybody else about a 02 p3 I am looking to buy. The boat is running a 2.5 merc with a 4 blade 24 or 25 trophy I think and the owner says it is real slow out of the hole with full live wells and alot of gas in tanks. I drove it with little gas in tanks and no water in livewells and it jumped out of the hole. Is this an inherent problem with the p3 and can going to 3 blade prop help? I am going from a 2000 classic 200 opti and know not to expect it to jump out like this but dont want to deal with a 8 or 10 sec holeshot. Thanks steve

The P-III is an awesome boat! There is a post / response(s) regarding a similar question asked by another P-III owner on page 2 on this board. I own an 01 P-III with a Yam 3.0 ltr 200 V-Max and the hole shot with a light load is fantastic, though with tournament gear, both fuel tanks and livewells full, and a stocky partner, the P-III can be a little sluggish crawling out of the hole. BC recommends a Merc Shooter, Renegade, or Tempest Plus for best results. Your hole-shot experiences, depending on many set-up variables may vary!

We would suggest a 23 Tempest on this rig, perhaps a 24″ if you ran lightly loaded. BCB

I own an 04 PIII. The last year they were made and I run a beast (200 Mecury 3.0) on the back of it and have NO problem getting out of the hole regardless of my load. With some adjustments in jackplate and prop tweaking (PVS plugs) you should be able to reach satisfaction with your hole shot. It is an awesome boat and has a rough water ride like NO other 19 boat on the market. I also perfer the older style consoles. I fish a lot in the winter on The Lake of the Ozarks and the older consoles give you more protection from the elements. The length of the boat also allows me to manuver in between the docks with out a lot of problems. I just dont think a guy could go wrong with a PIII or PIV. Good Luck Glenn

ditto to what mocatt said…the P3 is awesome, but the 2.5L motor doesnt have enough torque to push it out of the hole with a 25P blade. BTW, let me know if you decide to buy the boat and what to unload the prop… Im looking for another 25 Trophy plus for my P3 as mine got dinged up this fall.

I run a 25 Trophy Plus and a 26 Tempest Plus. The 25 Trophy is the prop that I run the majority of the time. With just me, tackle (meduim load) port side tank full and starboard tank with about 10 gallons and no water in the livewells, the best I have ran is 74 GPS. With water in the livewells it will GPS 72. Im running a 200 Mecury EFI 3.0. I can pick up a couple of mph with the 26 Tempest but, the boat seems to like the 25 Trophy better for overall performance……………GlennLast edited by mocatt on December 17th, 2007, 9:26 pm, edited 1 time in total.
