17 Eyra Prop/Hub Question

Dumb question I'm sure but wanted to confirm. I'm trying out a Bravo 1 XS 28 this weekend on my 17 Eyra, Mercury 250. I have only run Fury props, both Fury 3 and Fury 4's. The hub is the same for all the Mercury props with the torque master lower unit, correct? Nothing different for the Bravo prop? Prop has been worked and belonged to a previous Eyra owner. Interested to see how it performs compared to the Fury 4's I've been running. I've had the boat for 22 months and wanted to try something different and possibly get a little more speed.

I thought it was strange on the fury 3, vs the 4, the torquemaster hub has the slightest bit of play in the 4. Post your performance #’s on all 3 props when your done! It would be intresting to see!

Well, my experience with the Bravo 1 XS 28 was short due to me messing my lower unit up. Hope to have the boat back tomorrow. I liked the Bravo XS, lot more lift, just as others have stated. Mid range acceleration was great. I only got it up to 74 and it got too rough for my comfort level. Prop seemed great in rough water, better than my Fury 4. I definitely had to run the Bravo XS quite a bit lower than my Fury 4. It was hot out, upper 80’s when I ran it, water temps were around 80, so hole shot wasn’t good. Interested to see how it is with cooler weather.

Interested in hearing how the Bravo props performs as well. By the way, which route did you end up going? New lower unit for the Pro XS or did you jump to the 4 stroke?

Found a new Mercury lower unit and got a great price on it. The guy with the new 250 had it priced at $18,900 plus shipping and wouldn’t budge on the price. He had it in stock though so don’t blame him. Jaco’s is around $16500 but they don’t have any in stock but have about 40 ordered. They ordered them months ago (I think she said about 6)and they are supposed to start arriving in 3-4 weeks, that was a week ago. But, who knows when they’ll actually arrive.

I still could have put a new 4 stroke on it and come out pretty good in the deal with the insurance check and what I could have sold the motor for. If I could have bought the motor a little cheaper I would have definitely done it, I just thought paying $2400 more than Jaco’s was dumb and I found a lower unit. At Jaco’s price I could have gotten the 4 stroke for the cost of the dealer installing it, maybe less. I should have the boat back tomorrow afternoon.

Good move. You will be fishing sooner and you can always repower later when the motors are more available.
