Those were some tough conditions those three days. The temperatures had dropped like a rock and it was as windy for three days as I have ever been fishing in. When I think back about that tournament, Eason did one heck of a job on day one to catch that much weight in largemouth. I feel sorry for him in retrospect because really, he had that tournament in his hand after day 1. Its really too bad he couldnt back it up. Menendez was catching them, but not 28 lbs a day catching them. I guess it was just Marks time. I zeroed on day 1……after Mark and I had locked back thru from Wilson back to Pickwick, we stopped at a little entrance between two very small islands with about an hour to go. Mark told me that in practice he could count on one being in this little eddy between the islands. Mark didnt cast and lined me up to cast. I shot 8 or 10 casts into this area with no bites. Mark says, well, I guess shes not in there….he picks up his rod, first cast, bam, another nice keeper. When its your time, you can not be stopped.
