2005 Merc EFI !!!!!!!!!!

I have a 05, 200 Merc EFI, can anyone give me some insight on this engine. Should I “upgrade” or would it be an upgrade to the OptiMax? How much different is my 2.5L EFI than a 3.0L EFI? I havent had any trouble out of it, but would like to run faster. Is there anything I can do to make this moter faster other than a prop? Thanks for any advise and help. Billy

Billy, generaly speaking it isnt worth the $$$ to upgrade a new engine on an older boat. If the engine is performing well, personally I would keep this engine until I bought a new boat/ engine combination. The new Optis and the Pro XS engines are the stuff if you are to buy a new product. Not only is the performance exceptional, but the fuel economy over the EFI engines is very noticable.Last edited by Basstar on October 14th, 2007, 3:54 am, edited 1 time in total.

An Optimax would be an upgrade in fuel economy, a little on the low end, and a little on the top end. Unless you just got to have a new engine, keep what you have. Anothe route that might be better in the long run is selling yours and purchasing a newer model boat. Either way its going to cost you some money. Good luck with your decision.
