2006 Puma Ram Mount At Bow Access

Have a similar question to gmcfarland but did now want to highjack his post as his question was regarding the Cougar, I have a 2006 puma. Have a screw hole that stripped when mounting the ram ball. Cannot reach it through the rod box or other access points. It is acceptable to do as Phil said drill a 3 inch access hole under the trolling motor foot pedal to get access to use bolts and self locking nuts then use the plastic cover plate, like the one used on the passenger side for access to the passenger console hardware to cover. Any water issues in either of my rod boxes if I make a hole under the trolling motor foot pedal, should I seal it with marine silicone to prevent water leaking in? Currently has the Minkota Maxim trolling motor. Thank you for your help.Jack

My access port on my P2 was factory installed and has no silicone seal. I have had no problems with leakage into the rod lockers. I can say that access has made a couple of jobs so much easier for me.

can you not rotate the mount and put another screw in or drill out the hole in the mount to use a larger screw and keep the same hole pattern. using epoxy on the bottom of the mount and then putting screws in would also be a good idea.

bwwp77, Really do not want to rotate and drill more holes of course this one is basically off to one side by itself, the other 3 are nice and tight. I have also used the largest screw size available to, so that is not an option. Catdude28, when you say factory installed do you have that 3 inch access hole under your trolling motor foot pedal? BCB any thoughts from your end.Thanks for any and all advice.Jack

You might want to check on that access hole diameter, as I recall I could get my fist in mine, so its about 4.5″ at least. A 3″ hole would not be of much help in reaching across because you couldnt get your hand in it. And you need to do that to get the nuts on.Call Bass Cat and get an access cover and 4 screws shipped to you, that will tell you how large the hole can be.

I can not tell you the diameter as my boat is away in storage for the winter.

I look at this option when installing my ram mount. I just couldnt bring myself to Cutting a hole like that! . If its a 4 inch hole thats alot of the surface area gne. Yea I agree a 3 inch hole is small and it will be hard to cut a big ole hole in the Cat. I have emailed BCB Service and Parts to see if they can provide me the correct size and option of buying a cover. Thank you everyone for your advice and help.Jack
